Textiles Committee and UNEP implement programme on sustainability in textiles

This initiative will help the key stakeholders to adopt sustainability in production and marketing of products in addition to adopting sustainable means in the process of monitoring.

The Textiles Committee (TC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) implemented a programme on “Enhancing Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles”. The main objective is to minimise the negative environmental impacts of the Indian textile industry by promoting sustainable practices where these exist and mainstreaming knowledge of circular production best practices in the textile and apparel sector.

The TC & UNEP have evolved campaign strategy to social media & media for promoting sustainability in the Textile Value Chain (TVC) with focus in sustainable fashion.

The consumers will be sensitised about the need and urgency to adopt sustainable fashion by adopting 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) for a clean & green world.

As a major player in the Textiles Apparel (T&A) sector in the international market, the initiative will help the key stakeholders to adopt sustainability in production and marketing of products in addition to preparing the to adopt sustainable means in the process of monitoring.

As a part of this initiatives, the Textiles Committee organised a programme on 30th January 2023 Jio World Convention Centre to unveil the Social Media Campaign collateral like reels, infographics etc. designed for the purpose. The programme also deliberated on Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles Value Chain (TVC) in addition to discussing on the way forward on this important issue. The event was attended by senior officers of central and state government, stakeholders of the textile industry including representatives from UNEP.
