He served TAI, Mumbai Unit, with exceptional dedication, distinction and selfless commitment over several decades.
It is with profound grief and a deep sense of loss that The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit mourns the sad and sudden demise of Dr Chidambaram Bose, Trustee and President Emeritus of TAI, Mumbai Unit, who passed away on 7th September 2026 at the age of 76 years.
Dr Bose was one of the foremost pillars and key functionaries of The Textile Association (India), an important organisation of textile professionals. He served TAI, Mumbai Unit, with exceptional dedication, distinction and selfless commitment over several decades. He was a Vice President from 2003 to 2005 and subsequently served as President from 2005 to 2017, steering the Mumbai Unit with remarkable efficiency, vision and commitment. Since 2010, he had also been serving as a Trustee of TAI, Mumbai Unit. In recognition of his meritorious services and outstanding contribution to the Association, Dr Bose was honoured with the Hon. FTA and Service Gold Medal by TAI. In 2026, he was further honoured with the Distinguished Service Award by TAI, Mumbai Unit, for his exemplary services and outstanding contributions to the Association. His invaluable leadership, guidance and dedication as President helped TAI, Mumbai Unit, reach new heights. His contribution towards the redevelopment of Santosh Building was enormous and will always be remembered with deep gratitude.
Dr Bose also made a pioneering contribution to the Indian texturising industry. He successfully organised five International Seminars on Texturising at Silvassa, the first of their kind in India. These landmark events provided the Indian texturising industry with valuable global exposure and contributed significantly towards improving quality, productivity and technological awareness. He was widely regarded as a pioneer in texturising.
An accomplished textile technologist and professional, Dr Bose held B.Tech. (Textiles), M.Tech. (Textiles), F.I.E. and Chartered Engineer (FTA) qualifications. He began his professional career with Hindon River Mills (DCM) as Assistant Spinning Master (Product Development) and subsequently served organisations including Sir Padampat Research Centre, J.K. Synthetics, Kota, Urvi Chemicals and Nirlon Synthetics.
He joined Reliance Industries and served as Senior Vice President from 1995 to 2009. During his distinguished tenure, he played a pivotal role in developing the world’s largest, state-of-the-art texturising facility in 1995. As Plant Incharge, he led the Silvassa plant to global recognition for its cost-effective operations, superior yarn quality, high productivity and environmentally responsible practices.
Following Reliance Industries’ acquisition of Trevira, Germany, Dr. Bose led its technical operations across Germany, Denmark and Poland for three years. He also successfully led the acquisition and record-time transfer of UNIFI Ireland’s complete texturising and polyester facilities to India under Reliance Industries Limited.
Dr C Bose pioneered Air Texturising Technology in India in 1976, designing and developing machines and process parameters for improved yarn quality. He developed pilot machines for IIT Delhi, Sir Padampat Research Centre, Kota, and PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He also contributed extensively to Industrial Fabric development at Nirlon Ltd. His patents include innovations in Air Texturising Machines, Processes, Air Textured Blended Filament Yarns, and Nylon Coloration during spinning.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr Bose will be remembered for his humility, accessibility, kindness and compassion. He was truly a man of the masses, with a special place in the hearts of countless textile professionals. His warmth, wisdom, guidance and willingness to support others earned him immense respect and affection across the textile fraternity.
The Mumbai Unit was privileged to have had such an eminent professional and dedicated leader at the helm of its affairs. His absence will be deeply felt by the Association and by the entire textile community. His demise is an irreparable loss to TAI, Mumbai Unit, which has lost one of its most important pillars of strength.
A Condolence Meeting in memory of Dr C Bose was held on 11th September 2026 at the TAI, Mumbai Unit Office, where members and well-wishers paid their heartfelt tributes and remembered his remarkable contributions and enduring legacy.
Dr Chidambaram Bose may no longer be with us, but his ideals, achievements and memories will continue to inspire generations of textile professionals. His immense contribution to the Association and to the textile industry will remain etched in our hearts and will always be remembered with gratitude and respect.
