Cotton Council International (CCI) celebrated its first ever virtual Cotton Day in India with focus on sustainability and a greener world post COVID-19 and stronger US-India ties.

The Cotton Council International (CCI), the National Cotton Council’s (NCC) export promotion arm, recently hosted technical seminars in India to discuss manufacturing process improvements with mills using US cotton.

Trade war and India’s lowered cotton output are enablers for new market opportunities for United States’ cotton in India.

A team of CAI Directors led by the CAI President, Atul S Ganatra held a meeting with Dhruv Sood, a local representative of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) based in Mumbai very recently to reconcile USDA crop numbers relating to India with the CAI crop numbers.

All is not well on the cotton front! Fall in production and acreage, and wild fluctuations in the prices beginning late last year have dampened the spirit of the industry. On the farm front, ravages of bollworm have added to the woes of the suppliers.

Politics has become even more unpredictable and so no one is entirely certain about the outcome the G20 Summit – especially concerning US-China trade relations.
