Eri silk, also known as Ahimsa silk, is derived from the silkworm Philosamia ricini, and is distinct for its humane and eco-friendly production process.

The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) is establishing an Eri silk spinning plant at the Integrated Textile Park in Mushalpur, Baksa in Assam. This strategic move aims to boost the production and promotion of Eri silk, a unique variety known for its fine texture and sustainability.

In a bid to harness the potential of the textile sector in the region, NEHHDC has embarked on this venture to set up a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to Eri silk. The Integrated Textile Park in Mushalpur provides a conducive environment for such initiatives, fostering innovation and economic growth.

Eri silk, also known as Ahimsa silk, is derived from the silkworm Philosamia ricini, and is distinct for its humane and eco-friendly production process. The establishment of this spinning plant aligns with NEHHDC’s commitment to sustainable practices and the promotion of indigenous crafts.

This move is poised to create employment opportunities in the region and contribute to the growth of the textile industry in Mushalpur. NEHHDC’s initiative not only supports local artisans but also adds momentum to the broader goal of making the region a hub for high-quality, environmentally conscious silk production.
