In its initial stage, the factory will hire 1,000 women and subsequently expand to provide jobs for more than 2,000 women.

A garment factory is set to be established in Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh, employing over 2,000 women to manufacture branded clothes by early next year. The first-of-its-kind factory in the state, inaugurated by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, will exclusively provide employment opportunities for women.

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) will manage the facility, which is planned to occupy a 45,000 square feet area. A senior RMC official mentioned that the infrastructure development for the factory in the state capital is nearly complete. The project has seen an investment of Rs 15 crore so far, as stated by the official.

In the initial phase, the factory aims to employ 1,000 women and will subsequently expand to create jobs for over 2,000 women. The factory has already installed 1,000 high-tech sewing machines, with the brand name yet to be finalized. Women with basic sewing knowledge will be recruited after receiving training, and the management plans to conduct training classes for freshers, according to the official.

The facility’s model is expected to resemble the Nawa Dantewada Garment Factory, established in Dantewada, once a hotbed of Maoist violence. The unit, operational since January 2021, initially produced uniforms for CRPF and NMDC, providing employment to around 200 people in two shifts.
