A lot of thrust has been given to Government?s ?Make in India? initiative, said RD Udeshi, President – Polyester Chain, Reliance Industries Limited, in keynote address. This was the theme of international textile conference, held by the Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit on December 1-2, 2016 at Hotel The Lalit, Mumbai.
For the man-made fibre industry (MMF) in India, its disgruntlement is turning into unceasing aggression. The reasons are many: China exports 65 per cent of manmade textiles out of its exports of $650 billion while India´s share of manmade textiles is hardly 20 per cent out of its exports of $40 billion.
India is the second largest producer of man-made fibres (MMF) in the world with presence of large plants having state-of-the art technology. MMF textiles constitute almost two-third of the domestic textile market. However, India´s share in global exports of value -added textiles of MMF is miniscule.
