Sutlej has created Digital Product Passports that compile essential product information, including material composition, manufacturing location, environmental impact data and sustainability attributes, in a transparent, accessible format.

Sutlej Textiles and Industries, a leading Indian textile manufacturer, has strengthened its sustainability measurement and data-driven decision-making framework by implementing advanced life cycle assessment and product transparency tools, including Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for key products. This initiative enables more accurate environmental impact assessment and supports data-led action planning across the organisation.

As part of this effort, Sutlej has created Digital Product Passports that compile essential product information, including material composition, manufacturing location, environmental impact data and sustainability attributes, in a transparent, accessible format. These Digital Product Passports enhance traceability and provide verified sustainability insights for customers and stakeholders increasingly seeking robust environmental data.

Commenting on the engagement, Ashish Kumar, CEO and Wholetime Director, Sutlej Textiles and Industries, said, “Sustainability is a strategic enabler at Sutlej, essential for long-term competitiveness, resilience, and value creation. We are embedding a robust, data-led framework to move beyond intent, transforming sustainability into a driver of innovation and enduring value.

GreenStitch is a key partner in this journey, delivering credible methodologies and intuitive digital tools. Through AI-powered LCA, GHG accounting, and Digital Product Passports, we now have clear visibility into product-level environmental footprints.

This empowers us to make smarter decisions, target high-impact reductions, increase stakeholder transparency, and accelerate our shift to truly sustainable manufacturing.”

With this implementation, Sutlej has established a centralised, standardised sustainability data system that supports structured product-level Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting. Phase 1 of the implementation supports LCAs across selected yarn and fabric product categories, alongside monthly environmental impact tracking. Further these results will be used to make products more sustainable.

By digitising data collection, validation and impact calculation, Sutlej has improved data accuracy and consistency, streamlined reporting processes and strengthened preparedness for buyer disclosures, audits and evolving regulatory requirements. The product-level impact data now supports buyer-specific carbon disclosures, substantiates sustainability claims, and enables more effective responses to market and regulatory expectations.

Importantly, the clearer visibility into impact hotspots across operations is empowering Sutlej’s  sustainability and operations teams to prioritise footprint reduction initiatives and support informed product and process decisions.

Sutlej worked with sustainability intelligence platform GreenStitch to support the development and implementation of the digital framework, including the Digital Product Passports. GreenStitch’s tools facilitated product-level impact measurement and reporting, enabling Sutlej to operationalise sustainability data effectively across its value chain.

Narendra Makwana, Co-founder and CEO of GreenStitch, added, “Sutlej is among the front-runners in operationalising sustainability at scale, with a clear focus on translating data into business-relevant action. Their adoption of product-level LCA and structured sustainability measurement shows strong leadership in moving from compliance to value creation.

We are excited to work with a partner that is embedding sustainability into core manufacturing decisions and setting a benchmark for the industry.”

This initiative builds on Sutlej’s established sustainability priorities, including regulatory compliance, buyer-driven standards, operational efficiency, and climate-focused actions such as renewable energy adoption and circular material integration. Looking ahead, Sutlej plans to deepen supplier engagement and use LCA insights to support decarbonisation planning, product and process redesign, and regulatory preparedness.
