Sustainability emerges as a catalyst for textile innovation and advancement
Harikrishnan P says, Bharat Tex 2024 unveiled the industry’s trajectory towards sustainability and inclusivity.
Bharat Tex 2024 unfolded as a tapestry of knowledge sessions, exhibitions, and thematic discussions, all converging to illuminate the path ahead for textile professionals worldwide. From the moment I stepped onto the exhibition floor, it was evident that sustainability had taken centre stage. In every corner, conversations buzzed around the imperative of adopting sustainable practices and embracing circularity in our industry.
Insights from certification experts
Determined to delve deeper, I ventured into the realm of sustainability certifications, engaging with stalwarts like Control Union, GSCS, and Hohenstein. Their expertise in sustainability certifications illuminated the roadmap for manufacturers, highlighting not just the environmental imperative but also the growing consumer demand for ethically sourced and eco-friendly products. It was clear that sustainability wasn’t just a trend but a fundamental shift reshaping the textile landscape.
Transforming textile and fashion: The rise of responsible practices
One of the standout knowledge sessions I attended was hosted by KPMG, unravelling the complexities of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in the textile and fashion sector.
The session underscored the transformation underway, where companies are no longer striving to be the best in the world but rather the best for the world. With demand for disclosure on the rise, the session underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in today’s conscientious consumer landscape.
ONDC’s mission for inclusive growth
Amidst the discourse on sustainability, another pivotal initiative caught my attention – the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). In a country where millions rely on selling goods for their livelihood, ONDC’s mission to democratise e-commerce resonated deeply. By enabling sellers from all walks of life to participate in the digital marketplace, ONDC seeks to unlock the full potential of e-commerce, fostering inclusive growth and empowerment across India.
Pushing boundaries and embracing innovation
In the midst of these transformative discussions, the spotlight also shone brightly on the realm of “technical textiles”. Manufacturers showcased their prowess in product diversification, signalling a strategic shift towards catering to specialised niches and emerging industries. It was a testament to our industry’s resilience and adaptability, as we embrace new frontiers and push the boundaries of innovation.
Summary
Bharat Tex 2024, a hub of textile innovation, unveiled the industry’s trajectory towards sustainability and inclusivity. Exhibitions and knowledge sessions spotlighted eco-conscious practices, with sustainability certifications by Control Union, GSCS, and Hohenstein emphasising consumer-driven demand for ethical products.
