The aim is to develop joint ventures and foster innovation hubs that support the growing textile ecosystem in the state.

Spanish Ambassador to India, Juan Antonio March Pujol, met with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to explore potential areas of collaboration in key sectors including renewable energy, metallurgy, textiles, and automobiles.

During the meeting, the Odisha government highlighted the state’s rapid economic growth and its emergence as a leading investment destination with a focus on responsible and future-ready development. The ambassador acknowledged Odisha’s evolving industrial landscape and indicated Spain’s interest in forging long-term, technology-driven partnerships.

A major point of discussion was strengthening bilateral cooperation in metallurgy and refractory solutions. Majhi noted recent foreign investments in the sector, including TIMAB Magnesium India, a subsidiary of French-Spanish conglomerate Groupe Roullier. The company is establishing Rs 900 million refractory manufacturing facility in Khordha, which is projected to create over 300 jobs.

The state government also presented its updated renewable energy policy, encouraging Spanish companies like Siemens Gamesa, Acciona, and Iberdrola to consider investment opportunities in solar parks, offshore wind energy, and green hydrogen projects. Odisha emphasised its commitment to a green energy transition and sought Spanish collaboration in areas such as floating solar infrastructure and advanced energy storage solutions.

Additionally, the government extended an invitation to prominent Spanish apparel brands such as Zara, Desigual, and Mango to explore sourcing and innovation opportunities within Odisha’s integrated textile parks. The aim is to develop joint ventures and foster innovation hubs that support the growing textile ecosystem in the state.
