Make in India initiative, launched a couple of years ago by the Modi Government, has also caught the serious attention of the textile industry, which seemed to have progressed well on this front. The ITJ takes a closer look with some highlights from the current scenario.

Thanks to the demonetisation, the Indian textile and apparel industry has lost 30-40 per cent of business. Apparel sale in domestic markets had stopped in the initial days and recovered gradually. Consumers continue to face liquidity tightness, resulting in deferring of purchase.

Falcon Yarns, a greenfield project with 36,000 spindles capacity coming up in Rajkot, has installed the first EcoPulsarS link project in Gujarat, India with 22 machines. Winding and twisting machines manufacturer Savio Italy and A.T.E. India congratulated Falcon on installation of EcoPulsarS. Falcon will be engaged in spinning, weaving and finishing of textiles.

Teijin Limited has launched Xfire® DENIM, a practical and fireproof denim-like aramid fibre fabric for firefighting uniforms. The new aramid fabric is expected to meet the growing demand for extra-maneuverable clothing for volunteer fire corps. Sales of Xfire® DENIM has begun in December and Japanese manufacturers will start selling uniforms for fire corps made with Xfire® DENIM in 2017.

The Indian Card Clothing has emerged as a name to reckon with in carding. Quality, production boost and innovation have been at the heart of its development over the years.Innovation has become an ongoing process at ICC, and has resulted in a wide range of wires, tops and flexible card clothing. ICC is one of the few companies in the world that manufactures card clothing to process every fibre.

Textiles in the first six months grew at an average of 1.4 per cent and in the last six months of the FY, it accelerated at an average rate of 3.4 per cent.

Savio has a long association with the Ramco Group, which operates 4,50,000 spindles at its 15 units. Ramco Group is known for high quality yarn ranging from Ne 24 to Ne 340 for unique shirting applications with value addition. Representatives of the Group visited Savio stall at Textile Machinery Exhibition, ITME-2016 at Mumbai.

A lot of thrust has been given to Government?s ?Make in India? initiative, said RD Udeshi, President – Polyester Chain, Reliance Industries Limited, in keynote address.
