KTR appeals Telangana govt to support textile industry

Highly skilled weavers in the powerloom sector had expanded their operations.

Amidst a burgeoning crisis in the textile industry in Telangana, KT Rama Rao, the working president of BRS, urged the Congress-led government in the state to take prompt action to avert a serious downturn. He stressed the necessity for the new government not only to continue the programs initiated by the previous BRS government but also to implement additional measures to support the struggling sector.

In a statement, Rama Rao stated that over the past decade, Siricilla’s textile industry had witnessed significant growth, thanks to the collaborative efforts and support provided by the previous BRS government. He noted that highly skilled weavers in the powerloom sector had expanded their operations, turning the region into a formidable player in the textile landscape.

Rama Rao conveyed his request to the Congress government, urging them to continue and strengthen the sector further, emphasizing its potential to grow and compete with the Tirupur cluster in Tamil Nadu.

Expressing concern about the troubling developments in the textile sector within the last 15 days, the former Textiles and Handlooms Minister, who also represents the Sircilla constituency in the Assembly, cautioned that without immediate government intervention, the textile industry in Sircilla could confront a severe crisis.

Notably, the Polyester Clothes Association of Sircilla recently officially announced the shutdown of their powerlooms due to the lack of fresh orders for several months. This decision comes even as lakhs of meters of unsold cloth accumulate in the warehouses.
