The Minister encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly practices, efficient use of water and electricity, soil conservation, and renewable energy.

The Ministry of Textiles marked World Cotton Day 2025 with a renewed focus on sustainability, technology adoption, and export growth in the cotton sector. Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh reiterated the government’s aim to achieve $100 billion in textile exports as part of a broader $350 billion textile sector goal by 2030, alongside a target of carbon neutrality.

Speaking at the event, jointly organised by the Ministry and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), Singh emphasised cotton as the soul of Indian agriculture, reflecting farmers’ resilience and hope. Highlighting India’s 40 per cent share of global cotton cultivation, he noted the productivity gap—around 450 kg per hectare versus global levels of 2,000 kg per hectare—and announced that a “Mission for Cotton Productivity” is under consideration.

The Minister encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly practices, efficient use of water and electricity, soil conservation, and renewable energy. He urged stakeholders to promote Kasturi Cotton Bharat as a premium global brand, comparable to Egyptian Giza and American Supima cotton.

The event also saw MoUs signed under Kasturi Cotton Bharat with organisations including Arvind, Nitin Spinners, RSR International, ICAR-CIRCOT, Hohenstein, and others, aimed at positioning Indian cotton as a symbol of purity, quality, and sustainability.

Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita highlighted initiatives aligned with the government’s 5F vision—farm, fibre, factory, fashion, and foreign. Industry representatives from CITI, TEXPROCIL, and CCI stressed cotton’s role in economic growth, employment, and rural livelihoods, particularly benefiting women.
