A meeting was conducted by The Greater
Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) with the different industrial
associations so that their suggestions can be taken on Mattewara industrial
park.
In the meeting,
Members of industrial associations including Knitwear and Textile Club,
Ludhiana Dyers’ Association, and Federation of Industrial and Commercial
Organisation (FICO) were present. They gave suggestions on the size of the
plots, the establishment of effluent treatment plants (ETP), connectivity, and
earmarking space to establish labour quarters.
According to
Vinod Thapar, President, Knitwear and Textile Club, the club has suggested that
there should be space for labour quarters because it would be otherwise
difficult to transport labourers to that area. He also said that the size of
the plots that will be allocated should not be less than 1,000 square yards.
As per Rahul
Verma, Focal Point Dyeing industry, currently GLADA is charging a very high
price for a minimum plot of 1 acre. He also said that the industry should
earmark space for small and medium industry and a residential colony should
also be developed here.
Members of
different NGOs were also a part of the meeting and they raised objections over
the alleged proposal to make an industrial park on the flood plains of Sutlej River. According to PS
Gill, Chief administrator, GLADA, PSIEC will take the final decision regarding
whether a textile park will be made or any other sector will be involved.
