The Department of Science and
Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has signed a MoU
with TVEI on bamboo extraction for textile application.

DOST-PTRI and
TVEI want to come into a partnership related to the production of bamboo
textiles using the agency’s bamboo fibre extraction technology. According to
Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña, Secretary, DOST, through this partnership, the
institute wants to explore the Institute’s bamboo fibre extraction technology

because the integrated eco-farm is located here. He also said that to produce
bamboo textiles, the processing of bamboo fibres will be used.

This whole
project has been funded under DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic
and Natural Resources (PCAARRD)-Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program. This program is
entitled “Field Verification of Bamboo Textile Material Production and
Treatment Technology.

De la Peña also
commented that since the MoU has been signed, a bamboo fibre extraction
facility is going to be established in the TVEI premises to help in the
extraction of fibre from Kawayang Tinik poles.

As per the chief

Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS), natural farming technology, and
