The laboratory will play a key role in enforcing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India, ensuring that textile products comply with national standards.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad, has established a dedicated laboratory for testing specialised textile products.

The facility was inaugurated by Pramod Kumar, Director-General, BIS, who emphasised its role in strengthening the quality ecosystem in the textile sector through advanced testing capabilities. The laboratory will play a key role in enforcing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India, ensuring that textile products comply with national standards. Testing facilities for yarn are also expected to be operational soon, further enhancing its scope.

The same building also houses a gold testing laboratory, where samples are examined for purity to ensure authenticity and standardisation in the market.

As part of the launch, a universal testing machine (UTM) for textile testing was introduced, providing a versatile tool for assessing the quality and durability of various textile products.

Officials at the event highlighted the importance of using ISI-marked products, which comply with BIS standards and ensure safety, reliability, and durability.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Directors-General Nishat Sultana Haque (Laboratories) and Dr Meenakshi Ganesan (South), who heads both the Southern Regional Laboratory and the Hyderabad laboratory, along with Srikanth, head of the Hyderabad branch office.
