Narendra Dalmia, Director, Strata Geosystems (India), in this interview with Divya Shetty, shares how their company is fostering growth in the geosynthetics sector.

With the increasing demand for geotextiles, how is Strata Geosystems strategically positioning itself to support and contribute to the growth of this sector?
Strata acknowledges the rising demand for geotextiles and has strategically positioned itself to lead in supporting and contributing to the growth of this sector. Year after year, we have increased our manufacturing capacities to meet the growing demand in the country, thereby eliminating our reliance on imports and contributing to national self-sufficiency.

Can you share some of the recent innovations that Strata Geosystems has introduced in the geotextile sector, and how these innovations address the evolving needs of the industry?
Innovation lies at the heart of Strata Geosystems’ approach. We have recently introduced quality advancements in our field to meet the evolving needs of our users. These innovations encompass the introduction of products such as StrataDrain drainage composite, StrataGrid GeoComposites, SGP pavement geogrid, and Strata Tex high-strength geotextiles, with capabilities reaching up to 1200 kN/m. These cutting-edge solutions are meticulously designed to enhance overall performance in the geotechnical and civil engineering sectors.

Are there specific sectors within the textile industry that Strata Geosystems currently caters to, and are there plans to venture into new sectors in the future?
Technical Textile industry comprises of 12 segments, and Strata is strategically positioned to concentrate on the field of geosynthetics, recognising the substantial development opportunities within this sector. A critical challenge in geotextiles lies in imparting technical understanding to civil engineers regarding the correct methodologies for usage. Strata, having decades of domain knowledge through our global presence, addresses this challenge by offering comprehensive turnkey solutions, a crucial factor for fostering growth in the geosynthetics sector. This focused approach aligns with our commitment to contribute to the advancement and development of this industry in the country.

Could you provide insights into any sustainable initiatives that Strata Geosystems has implemented?
We have consistently embraced sustainable solutions in manufacturing. For instance, five years back, we opted and shifted to a cumbersome water-based coating technology, deviating from the industry’s standard practice of using easier solvent-based coating option. The water waste generated is completely recycled and reused. Additionally, we have installed, recently, a roof top solar power generation facility in our factory. Besides energy, we also actively recycle many of our packaging materials which come with the raw materials. We are EPD certified, and our sustainability score is further enhanced by our initiative of solar power.

As explained above, we follow environmental regulations very strictly in our manufacturing process. We maintain a proactive approach to stay compliant with all relevant regulations in the production and distribution of geotextiles. It should be noted that Strata’s geosynthetic solutions reduce the use of natural resources, thereby playing a significant role in restricting environmental damages and minimising waste generation during construction projects.

Looking ahead, are there any upcoming projects or initiatives that Strata Geosystems is excited about, or new sectors that the company is planning to explore within the textile industry?
Geosynthetics play a pivotal role in addressing soil challenges across various civil engineering applications including ground improvement. At Strata, we are committed to broadening our technical expertise to cater to diverse sectors, including ports and container yards, landfills, mining, warehousing, and different industrial sectors.
