Outlast brings fresh2SKIN cooling to cotton, viscose fabrics
New finish adds cooling effect while preserving natural softness.
Outlast Technologies has extended its fresh2SKIN cooling technology to cellulose-based fibres such as cotton and viscose, allowing brands to combine natural materials with a refreshing cooling effect and enhanced thermal comfort.
The latest innovation ensures that the finish can be applied without compromising the natural softness and handfeel of these fabrics. The treatment remains virtually imperceptible, preserving the smooth, flexible characteristics that consumers typically associate with cotton and viscose textiles.
Instead, the benefit is immediately noticeable through a cool sensation upon skin contact. This instant sensory experience is expected to influence buying decisions at the point of sale, especially when consumers try on garments such as T-shirts equipped with the technology.
fresh2SKIN also integrates long-term comfort features. Microcapsules containing natural wax absorb excess body heat and release it when temperatures fall, helping maintain a balanced microclimate and potentially reducing perspiration during both day and night.

“Achieving this exceptionally natural handfeel on cellulose-based fibers such as cotton or viscose was a key objective for our development team,” said Volker Schuster, Head of Research & Development, Outlast Technologies. “Our goal was to integrate the fresh2SKIN® functionality without compromising the authentic character of these materials. The result are textiles that feel completely natural while delivering an immediately noticeable cooling effect.”
The development is expected to open up opportunities across next-to-skin applications, including T-shirts, underwear, activewear, sleepwear, and bedding products.
