India’s prominent textile company, Sportking India, has teamed up with ATGC Biotech to enhance cotton production for farmers through the ‘San-Vardhan’ (cotton you can trust) initiative. This program features ATGC Biotech’s new CREMIT (controlled release enhanced mating interruption technology), designed to shield cotton crops from Pink Bollworm (PBW) infestations.

The initiative is being rolled out across 2,000 acre in three districts in Punjab and Haryana.

Munish Avasthi, the Managing Director of Sportking India, expressed his concern over the significant losses caused by reduced cotton output, which affects smallholder cotton farmers, ginners, yarn manufacturers, and the entire value chain. He conveyed his satisfaction in funding the CSR project ‘San-Vardhan’ with the CREMIT technology to combat PBW and support cotton farmers in North India.

Dr Baljinder Saini, Executive Director of the Reviving Green Revolution Cell, the project’s implementing partner, expressed his pleasure at the textile industry’s involvement in aiding cotton farmers and expressed hope for similar initiatives in Central and South India’s cotton-growing regions.

Sportking India operates manufacturing facilities in India, producing a diverse range of textiles to meet the needs of the weaving and knitting industries.
