The Southern India Mills? Association (SIMA) jointly with PSG institutions established a Textiles Technical Training Institute (TTTI) exclusively for training the fitters and electricians at Nilambur, Coimbatore as one of its platinum jubilee commemoration activities. Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd donated the entire range of plant and machinery for the pilot mill located at Nilambur. The first batch of the programme is commencing on 25 March 2015.
T Rajkumar, Chairman, SIMA, has informed that the textile industry has been facing acute shortage of labour and more so the technicians, both mechanical maintenance, electrical and electronics maintenance. He has stated that the textile projects particularly weaving and spinning have become highly capital intensive and therefore, the Association had set up the institute jointly with the premier institution – PSG College of Technology to meet the urgent needs. Rajkumar has stated that all the leading textile machinery, spares & accessories manufacturers and service providers have come forward to share their technical expertise and train the technicians to meet the needs of the individual mills and maintain the machinery properly.
SIMA chief has stated that the institute would offer short, medium and long term programmes and to start with, it plans to offer three to five days technical training programme for the fitters. He has added that the first four day programme for the spinning preparatory fitters commencing on 25 March 2015 would cover all the machines, accessories & equipment. He has said that faculty from PSG College of Technology and professionals from Lakshmi Machine Works, VETAL, Lakshmi Card Clothing, Habasit Iakoka, Textech, Voltas, SKF and ATE would train the technicians. SIMA Chairman has highly appreciated the efforts put in by the PSG institutions and LMW for making this project a success. He has appealed to all other manufacturers of textile machinery, spares & equipment, accessories, textile mills, textile technocrats and service providers to extend full support to the institute to make it a centre of excellence for technical training with global standards. He has also appealed to the textile mills to make use of all the services provided by the Institute and upgrade the skills of their technicians, which is the need of the hour to remain competitive.
