Technotex ends on hopeful note

A new textile policy is on the anvil and it will lay the roadmap for the sector for the next 15 years, said Union Minister of Textiles Santosh Gangwar after inaugurating the 4th edition of Technotex 2015. Organised by the Ministry of Textiles & FICCI, Technotex 2015 was held at Mumbai, the financial capital of India, between April 9-11, 2015. A total of 200 exhibitors participated during the event. The Taiwan pavilion of 18 companies displayed Taiwan´s latest textiles and composites with quality products.

Saying that the Indian textile sector as the sunrise sector, Gangwar said, ´The textile sector is the second largest industry sector after agriculture to create employment opportunities in the country. This year, India´s technical textile business is close to Rs 1 crore. In contrast, the international market stands at Rs 17 lakh crore.´ Pointing out that Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been doing a commendable job in the area, Gangwar said that the government is keen to develop this sector in the East Coast as well for which it has created a fund.

The theme of the event was´ Indian Technical Textiles Industry: Challenges & Opportunities´. Besides showcasing the strength of Indian technical textile industry, Technotex also served as a major platform for one-to-one business meetings between foreign and Indian companies.

States like Gujarat and Karnataka too participated as the partner states showcasing their strengths, investment opportunities and fruitful models for the industries. Even Rajasthan had put up a pavilion on technical textiles. The inauguration of the event began with the introduction of i-TUFS by the Textile Commissioner, Kiran Soni Gupta and launch of i-TUFS by Minister Santosh Gangwar. This was followed by the welcome addresses by Shishir Jaipuria, Chairman, FICCI Textiles Committee and Managing Director, Ginni Filaments, wherein he welcomed the esteemed dignitaries and briefed the industry about the various initiatives of FICCI for the textile industry and the progress of Technotex 2015.

Pramod Khosla, Chairman and Managing Director, Khosla Profil, spoke from the industry perspective towards the future and development of technical textile industry in India and emphaised on the importance of accelerating usage and promoting investments in India pertaining to the growth of the technical textile industry, which is referred to as the sunshine industry.

Mohan Kavrie, Managing Director, Supreme Group, spoke about the theme of Technotex 2015, i.e., ´Indian Technical Textiles Industry: Challenges & Opportunities´.

Swadheen Kshatriya, Chief Secretary, Govt of Maharashtra, delivered the address informing the gathering about the strength of the state in the technical textile sector.

Sanjay Kumar Panda, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, delivered his address and briefed the audience about the Indian technical textile industry and the initiatives taken by the government in the sunshine sector.

Chandrakant Patil, Minister for Co-operatives, Marketing, Textiles and PWD, Govt of Maharashtra, spoke about technical textile sector of one of the most progressive states in context of technical textiles and the initiatives taken bu the Government of Maharashtra to provide and environment of encouragement to the industry stakeholders.

Govindas Konthoujam, Minister for Commerce & Industries, VET/SERI, Govt of Manipur, delivered his address and emphasised on the scope of the implementation of technical textiles in the Northeast<
