GCCI, textile traders propose 7-day lockdown in Gujarat
GCCI members and other textile traders have requested the CM to announce a seven-day lockdown to break the chain and control the second COVID wave better. Gujarat CM appreciates their efforts.
Ahmedabad,
Gujarat
Due to a sharp increase in the
COVID-19 cases in Gujarat, the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)
members and various textile traders have requested Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister
of Gujarat, to announce a complete lockdown.
Hoping the move will break the
chain of infection, even the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association
(FOSTTA) wrote to the CM suggesting the same. The federation has mentioned that
a two-day lockdown was not enough to break the chain and has requested a seven-day
lockdown to help bring down the active cases.
In the letter to the CM, the FOSTTA
further added that while many trade establishments are open on weekends, only
the textile trading industry is being targeted for weekend closure.
A GCCI office-bearer
said that a complete lockdown is much needed as there is no solution to curb the
current spread of infections. The GCCI member further added that they will support
the government in all its decisions regarding the COVID situation.
GCCI members from 11 districts
participated in the virtual meeting and the CM appreciated their efforts
towards improving the situation in Gujarat. This suggestion was made after
Gujarat experienced 11400 new cases and 117 deaths on Monday.
