To celebrate this achievement, the Textile Department of VJTI organised an event and invited various industry stalwarts and aspiring technical textile professionals.

Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai received Rs 10 crore under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). The institute will utlise Rs 9.5 crore for the upgradation of machineries and equipment, and Rs 50 lakhs for the training purpose. NTTM is an initiative drawn by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India to support the technical textiles industry.

To celebrate this achievement, the Textile Department of VJTI organised an event and invited various industry stalwarts and aspiring technical textile professionals.Dr Neha Mehra, Convener of the event explained what NTTM is and how this fund will enable the department to cater more efficiently towards training the skilled human resource for the technical textile sector.

The event was graced by Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner and Ketan Shanghvi, Hon. Treasurer, ITME Society as the Guest of Honour. Shanghvi congratulated the institute for the achievement and said, “Technical textiles is the fastest growing segment today. The growth in the traditional sector is limited due to saturation in the industry, but the technical textiles sector, due to its advancement, has humongous scope.”

Roop Rashi on the other hand encouraged the students present at the event and suggested the institute to avail more financial benefits from the government as well as other financial bodies.

In an interview with the Indian Textile Journal a few months back, Rajeev Saxena, Joint Secretary as Mission Coordinator, NTTM, explained how they are giving utmost importance to education, training and skill development of aspiring professionals. To address this, they introduced major schemes. Saxena stated, “We launched a scheme and invited applications from various universities and colleges. After receiving 37 applications, we will provide funding to selected institutions to establish laboratories and provide training to teachers for implementing these courses at UG and PG levels.”
