400 large and small textile manufacturing and processing plants are expected to be developed in the textile park located in the Lucknow-Hardoi districts.

The proposed mega textile park in Uttar Pradesh has attracted investment proposals totalling Rs 100 billion from major domestic textile and garment companies.

Among the companies planning to establish units in the UP Textile Park, which spans 1,162 acre, are Reliance Industries, Arvind Mills, Vardhman, and Ahuja Textile Mills, among others.

In total, approximately 400 large and small textile manufacturing and processing plants are expected to be developed in the textile park located in the Lucknow-Hardoi districts.

Recently, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, indicated that the textile hub is projected to draw a total investment of Rs 150 billion, creating 300,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

A state government official mentioned that several prominent textile companies had expressed interest in setting up plants in the UP Textile Park, with about a dozen companies requesting information regarding land allocation.

Additionally, the textile park aims to take advantage of disruptions in Bangladesh’s textile sector caused by political upheaval, which has reportedly resulted in the closure of 800 to 1,000 small and medium textile units in that country.

With India aiming for garment exports of $100 billion in the next five years, the UP Textile Park is expected to enhance domestic production to meet this goal.

The Minister of MSME, Khadi, and Textiles in Uttar Pradesh, Rakesh Sachan, stated that the textile park would solidify India’s position as a significant player in the global textile, garment, and apparel industry. He emphasised that policies would be formulated to promote various sectors, including apparel, garments, fibre, textiles, and threads, to achieve the export target.

The textile park is set to encompass not just manufacturing and processing units but also the entire textiles value chain. The facility will offer services such as training, marketing, design, packaging, manpower, consultancy, and export support.

Traditionally, Uttar Pradesh has been home to major textile hubs, including Varanasi, Lucknow, Bhadohi, and Gorakhpur. Recognising that the textile sector is a major employment generator, the government is actively promoting its growth.

The state has also partnered with Raymond to provide skills training for youth in garmenting and tailoring.

During a recent visit to Lucknow, Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond, described Uttar Pradesh as an important textile market.
