The textile traders in Madurai have sent a
letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Stalin requesting him to permit them open
the trade as many workers are badly affected due to the lockdown.
The merchants
have promised to follow proper procedures and protocols while working.
According to Ashraf Tayub, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Textile Merchants Association,
the efforts taken by the chief minister in the state to bring down the spread
of the virus have been applaudable. He also said that as
the spread has come down, the livelihood of the people has been protected.
Traders have to meet expenses like taxes, GST, electricity bills, and rent.
Expensive textiles can also be damaged as the shops have been closed for a long
time. He also said that the electric equipment like generators, air
conditioners, and computers also need to be repaired.

Gnanasambandan, President, Laghu Udyog Bharati has said that the government
should allow small shops to function during the weekdays so that people can
fulfil their urgent requirements and also procure uniforms needed for
factories.
