S Savitha, Handlooms and Textiles Minister, revealed plans to establish textile parks in Pamidi and Rayadurg in Anantapur district, and in Emmiganur and Mylavaram in Kurnool.
Savitha shared that efforts were underway to set up weaver stalls across the state. Additionally, tools for weavers would be provided at a 90 per cent subsidy. She explained that, in 2015, the then TDP government had allocated 90 acres for a textile park in Emmiganur. However, the subsequent Jagan government cancelled the plan and repurposed the land for Jagananna housing. After 2019, a court stay order was issued against the government’s decision, and the current TDP government was now in the process of reviving the textile park, which was expected to create 5,000 jobs.
Savitha also mentioned that the government would soon announce its textile policy. She noted that several MPs had come forward to release MPLADS funds for establishing weaver stalls. The Minister further credited Sathya Kumar, Health Minister, for playing a key role in setting up a mega textile park with an investment of Rs 300 million, backed by the Central Ministry of Handlooms and Textiles.
