With the Covid-19 situation in the US under control to some extent, export of readymade garments has risen to the US from various countries. Bangladesh could not take advantage of this and its exports have declined.
According to US Census Bureau, exports from Cambodia to the US were $6.6 billion in 2020, which was 22.79% higher than that of last year. Q1 of this year saw total exports of $1.86 billion even amid stoppages.
In February, Pakistan surpassed India, Indonesia, and Vietnam in apparel and textiles export to the US.
Garment exports from Vietnam has been falling in the recent past. For example, Thanh Cong Garment, one of a few Vietnamese garment companies that owns a yarn – fabric – garment production line that has a strong demand from South Korea and the US, has seen a contracts decrease considerably from foreign partners in the first six months of the year.
