Tamil Nadu government has decided to shut down the garment manufacturing units that are involved in exports to global markets as the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in the garment factories in Tiruppur district.

The second wave of COVID-19 in India has adversely affected the textile sector in Tamil Nadu, especially when the export demand was high. Further, the textile hubs of Tiruppur and Coimbatore are worst affected.

Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) appealed spinning mills to not stop the supply of cotton yarns as it’s affecting apparel units. The mills are not taking any new orders and have stopped production said President, TEA in a letter to associations.

Dr Hari Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Professor and Technical Consultant, Department of Textile Engineering, Dire Institute of Technology, Dire Dawa University, Ethiopia, shared his views on the production of technical textiles on modern looms.

Knit Tech is to be held from February 6-9, 2015 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. It has already been existing since 1993 and is today considered to be Asia´s largest trade fair of its kind in the field of knitting technology.
