The Indian Government has imposed anti-dumping duty (ADD)—ranging between $0.180 and $0.194 per kg—on viscose staple fibre (VSF) imports from China. The Finance Ministry has announced levying of ADD ranging from $0.103 to $0.512 per kg on VSF imports from Indonesia.

Cotton prices continue to decline in various parts of India, while the farmers are unhappy with the price ranging from Rs. 2,800 to Rs.3,200 per quintal. In 2013-14, the cotton fetched good price at Rs.5,500 to Rs.6,000 per quintal. Many farmers feel that unprecedented loss is incurred by them since the cotton cultivation cost has gone up.

The taxation of goods and services in India has hitherto been characterised by multiplicity of rates and this has left the industry and service providers at a disadvantageous position in the global market.
