Browsing: Flushable wipes

Dry wipes or wet wipes usually cause issues with sewage systems due to their failure to disintegrate in water. To counter this problem, Voith Group (Division: Paper) and Truetzschler Nonwovens have joined hands to develop flushable wipes.

The WC at home is often used to dispose of items other than toilet paper: fabric items and wipes for cosmetics, personal care and hygiene that really do not belong in there. These moist wipes are broken down very poorly in water, so they get into the drainage system, and from there to the wastewater treatment plants, where they form enormous clumps and have to be removed at great effort and expense.

ANDRITZ Nonwoven, part of international technology Group ANDRITZ, has received an order to supply a complete wetlace line to the leading Turkish nonwovens producer Akinal Sentetik Tekstil. The highly flexible ANDRITZ technology combines wet forming and hydroentanglement and is especially suitable for the production of flushable wipes that are dispersible and 100 per cent biodegradable without any chemical binder.

At the end of October, Voith Paper and Trützschler Nonwovens reached an important milestone: a nonwovens fabric from the jointly developed production process successfully passed the official INDA and EDANA test, and became certified as “flushable”.
