Textile industry formed a sizeable chunk of the Indian economy, long before the advent of the Europeans in India. The industry will play a crucial role in paving the way for India to become Atmanirbhar, says Vinod Kumar Gupta.

In 2020 alone, Asia Pacific accounted for 51 per cent of the global textile market, making it the largest region. India is the second-largest manufacturer and exporter of textile and clothing in the world, with a 5 per cent share of global trade.

The Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a convergence model for implementation of agro-forestry in the silk sector.
