With a rich legacy of German engineering and over 70,000 precision products, Groz-Beckert has cemented its status as a vital global partner for the textile industry. As the Indian textile sector positions itself as a premier manufacturing hub, the role of high-quality, efficient technology has never been more critical. Sanjay Chawla, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Groz-Beckert Asia, in this conversation with Divya Shetty, discuss how the company’s focus on precision, innovation, and local expertise is empowering Indian manufacturers to elevate quality and strengthen India’s competitive edge in the rapidly evolving global textile value chain.

Groz-Beckert has a long legacy in German textile engineering. How has the company contributed to the advancement of precision tools, industrial needles and textile systems globally?

Groz-Beckert has evolved from being a manufacturer of industrial machine needles into a global technology partner for the textile industry. Guided by our philosophy, “We advance the world of production by the power of our precision,” we serve customers across knitting, weaving, nonwovens, tufting, sewing and carding.

With a portfolio of more than 70,000 products, we support virtually every machine model used in textile production. Our expertise extends beyond individual components to fabric-forming and joining technologies that help manufacturers achieve higher efficiency, improved fabric quality and enhanced machine performance.

Today, Groz-Beckert operates in more than 150 countries, supported by an extensive service and subsidiary network, enabling us to contribute significantly to the advancement of textile manufacturing worldwide.

Groz-Beckert works across knitting, weaving, nonwovens, tufting, sewing and spinning. Which of these segments are seeing the strongest growth and demand in the Indian textile industry?

Indian Textile industry has been growing steadily and is projected to grow at an even higher rate in coming 5 – 7 years because India is presenting itself as a manufacturing hub for textiles to the world that can deliver high quality in a cost-effective way.

Additionally, domestic consumption is growing – driven by rising incomes, young population that is highly influenced by social media, increase in digital footprint & growth of retail network across the country. Brands are expanding in T2 and T3 cities to participate in this growth.

With this we see growth and demand across all segments. Capacity addition is seen in knitting, weaving, nonwovens and garments.

In order to help Indian textile manufacturers maintain the quality and consistency required to compete in global markets, how do the needles, precision parts, and tools from Groz-Beckert serve to improve overall productivity, fabric quality, and machine performance?

Our core focus is helping textile manufacturers achieve higher efficiency, superior fabric quality and enhanced machine performance in each segment by offering specialized products that meet customers’ growing demands.

For example, in knitting newly developed LCmax needle, with a unique wave-shaped shank geometry reduces friction within the needle trick. This results in lower machine temperatures, energy savings of up to 20 per cent, and the ability to operate machines at higher speeds.

For staple fibre applications, the SAN SF needle and SNK SF sinker combination help reduce contamination and extend cleaning intervals, contributing to improved operational efficiency and fabric quality.

SAN needles in sewing help the manufacturers achieve highest quality of seam quality even on the light weight fabrics.

DUR needles help the customers to achieve higher life cycle in non wovens production.

By focusing on how our products influence downstream processes and final fabric outcomes, we help manufacturers meet demanding global quality standards and brand expectations.

India has a large base in apparel, home textiles, technical textiles and nonwovens. How is Groz-Beckert supporting Indian manufacturers in moving towards higher-value and more specialised textile applications?

Groz-Beckert supports manufacturers across a wide range of applications, from apparel and home textiles to technical textiles and specialised industrial products.

In flat knitting, specialised solutions such as SAN TT and SAN FY needles address niche requirements including technical textiles and complex yarn processing while ensuring consistent fabric quality.

In weaving, our precision reeds serve applications ranging from fashion fabrics to technical textiles, while solutions such as the KnotMaster tying machine support the processing of advanced materials, including aramid and glass fibres.
