Plastic-free wipe innovation supports Europe’s bio-based shift.
Lenzing Group, a global producer of regenerated cellulose fibres for the textile and nonwovens industries, has introduced LENZING DualWipe, a new plastic-free wipe innovation nominated for the INDEX26 Awards in the “Nonwovens Roll Goods” category. The nomination reinforces the company’s focus on scalable cellulose-based solutions that can replace fossil-based materials in applications traditionally dependent on synthetics.
Developed using Lenzing’s Nonwovens Technology, LENZING DualWipe combines two functional surfaces in one wipe—an abrasive side for removing dirt and residues, and a soft, highly absorbent side for wiping and finishing. The product contains no synthetic fibres, binders or finishing chemicals, reducing the risk of plastic and microplastic shedding commonly associated with conventional wipes. Its compatibility with standard converting processes also supports its use across industrial, professional and household cleaning segments.
The innovation aligns with key themes discussed at a high-level roundtable held in Brussels in early March, organised in cooperation with Euractiv. Policymakers, industry representatives and experts at the event explored how bio-based materials can strengthen Europe’s economic resilience and accelerate the transition towards lower-carbon, fossil-reduced material systems. The discussions highlighted the growing role of cellulose-based innovations in supporting Europe’s sustainable industrial transformation.
