The Textile Institute Sri Lanka Section held their AGM at Brandix College of Clothing Technology, Ratmalana in Sri Lanka very recently. The TI Sections are important in supporting the work of the TI and bringing together professionals to advance knowledge and industrial practice globally.
Over the course of 2018, the Sri Lanka Section arranged lectures in digital colour quality management, how sustainability and innovation helps the clothing industry and wool applications in ballistic protection. These showcase their work in supporting the cutting-edge methods available for the education of students entering the textiles industry in various fields.
The Sri Lanka Section’s ideas for 2019 include plans for a national award presentation for textile manufacturers and entrepreneurs in conjunction with the National Enterprise Development Authority. The AGM also provided a platform for an awards ceremony to recognise the work of students who have studied the latest developments in their respective fields. The medal recipients were:
  • Ranjith Tennakoon Gold Medal 2017 – HPTS Jayasinghe
  • Anura De Silva Gold Medal 2017 – HMWT Herath
  • DP Gunawardena Gold Medal 2017 – Devindi De Silva
  • LS Wanigathunga Gold Medal 2017 – MGHJ Kumara
  • The Albert Thenuwara Memorial Medal 2017 – DMLC Baminiwaththa.

  • Textile Institute Sri Lanka Section Gold Medal 2017 – SY Weerasinghe
  • Textile Institute Sri Lanka Section Gold Medal 2017 – WADD Weerasinghe
The Sri Lanka Section has made great strides in forging global connections in the textile industries and looking at ways in which the industries can continue to flourish using pioneering techniques.
