The
union textile minister, Smriti Irani, inaugurated B2B textile machinery
exhibition, Surat International Textile Expo (SITEX), organised by the Southern
Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) on 9, January, 2021, held in
Surat.

In
her speech, at the inauguration of the three-day textile machinery exhibition,
Irani applauded the textile industry’s efforts to produce PPE kits and masks.
She said that before the pandemic, there was not a single company in the
country producing masks and PPE kits, after the pandemic, around 1,100 such
companies became operational. From two, the number of companies manufacturing
N-4 masks rose to 250 as per a leading news report.

SITEX
is spread over 10,500 square meters and will display technologies and machinery
solutions across spinning, weaving, printing, and ancillaries’ verticals. The
tradeshow hosts over 100 exhibitors and attracts international visitors from
Bangladesh, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

The
SITEX is being held at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Center
from 9 to 11, January, 2021.
