The cotton world gathered in Liverpool recently to celebrate the International Cotton Association’s (ICA) 175th anniversary. The event took place in Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel and was closed with a spectacular gala dinner in St George’s Hall. Officially opened by HRH Princess Anne, 570 delegates from the global cotton community came together to take part in the two-day event, which saw top industry speakers take to the stage.

Australian government’s research council has supported the creation of Aus$13.2 million hub with the support from Deakin University and industry partners. The center is part of the Institute of Frontier Materials at Deakin University in Geelong, Australia. The hub will enable Australia to be a leader in fibre research and development and will also support Geelong to be a hub for future advanced fibre manufacturing.
Levi Strauss & Co reported a profit of $31 million for Q2 recently, a leap from $12 million the same quarter one year prior. The jump in profit was due to a decline in charges related to the company’s productivity initiative and a debt extinguishment loss from the prior year.
India’s Ministry of Textiles is constantly in touch with the Ministry of Commerce for signing an FTA with the EU to boost trade especially in the textile sector. This was revealed recently by Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Rashmi Verma.

Garment sector in Myanmar is expected to earn $2 billion in 2016-2017. Exports from the garment sector earned nearly 1.7 billion dollars last year. The sector is likely to grow five times more than its current status and employ between 3,00,000 and a million laborers by 2024. The aim is to reach a garment export value of ten billion dollars by 2024.
