India’s textile exporters are finding their competitive edge getting blunt and profit margin thinner, thanks to a weak dollar, demonetisation after-effect and stiff competition from new textile nations. An Exclusive ITJ Report.

Replying to the questions from the ITJ, Persistence Market Research Report says that textiles and apparel industry growth is strongly linked to the overall global economic growth. Excerpts from the interview.

Why India is still a laggard in textile export while countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh are making strides?

The long-awaited GST rates have sparked off many a smile and a few wails in the textile industry! While the majority of textile industry, particularly the garment industry, has gone gung ho over the new rates of GST, synthetic textile segment has been crying hoarse, legitimately over the 18 per cent rate.
