Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has named Rakesh Mehra as chairman and Ashwin Chandran as deputy chairman, both serving for the next two years.
During its 65th Annual General Meeting, conducted virtually and announced on Facebook, CITI revealed significant leadership changes. Dinesh Nolkha was appointed as the vice chairman, and the new CITI heads were unveiled. The organisation declared that these appointments would be effective until 2025.
The newly appointed chairman, Mehra, expressed his dedication to supervising collaborative and inclusive projects within CITI, aimed at enhancing the growth of the Indian textile industry. It’s noteworthy that Mehra also serves as the chairman of Banswara Syntex, a textile business involved in exporting textiles, yarns, and garments, with a turnover of approximately Rs 1,400 crore.
During the meeting, the previous chairman, T Rajkumar, acknowledged the resilience of the Indian textile industry in the face of recent challenges such as geopolitical uncertainties, stagnant production, low trade levels, and inflation in various countries. Rajkumar highlighted that despite these adversities, the industry managed to achieve a remarkable 4.33 per cent growth in cumulative textile and apparel exports in August compared to the previous year. CITI, headquartered in New Delhi, advocates for textile industry businesses while focusing on enhancing exports within the sector.
