Vice President CP Radhakrishnan has affirmed that India’s textile and industrial sectors shall achieve substantial expansion following the lowering of US tax to 18 per cent and the free trade pact with European nations. During his inaugural address at the opening of the new academic block at the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Salem, Radhakrishnan noted Salem’s fame for mangoes and its notable handloom weaving industry, lauded the efforts of weavers, and stressed the importance of protecting traditional weaving heritage. The Vice President stated that the Central Government has been making attempts to advance the textile industry and observed that the recent agreement with European countries will create new prospects for India’s textile sector, allowing it to rival China and Bangladesh.
