The Swiss textile machinery industry is strongly export-oriented and has a presence with its own companies, sales and service organisations in all the world’s key markets. Cornelia Buchwalder, Secretary General, Swissmem, speaks about the response to Swiss textile machinery globally post ITMA and how the Swiss textile machinery industry has been faring in India since the beginning of 2016.

With the referendum to quit European Union, the impact on India’s textiles export to Great Britain will be minimal although it is a major market for apparels made in India. However, there could be initial turmoil due to structural changes and fresh negotiations being finalised. In perspective, EU imported textiles worth $235 billion in 2015 from the world. Of this, UK accounted for 15 per cent or $35 billion. Thus, the country is one of the largest markets for textiles including fibres, yarns, fabrics, apparels and other textile products. However, it is not a major supplier of this industry and thus will have negligible impact on sourcing.

In Hall 16 the main focus will be on solutions for tape production. The new developments from the Chemnitz-based think tank focus mainly on the EvoTape machine combined with the automatic tape yarn winder WinTape and – a trade fair premiere – an automatic baler yarn winder. Presented for the first time at the K three years ago, the combination of tape system and winder yields significant profitability increases of as much as 50 per cent – not only for carpet backing and geotextiles processes, but now also for baler yarn processes – compared to standard machines available on the market.
In conjunction with the WinFors winder, the Oerlikon Barmag spinning system configuration, designed especially for manufacturing mother yarn, guarantees profitable mother yarn production. The monofilaments produced from this are also extremely convincing in terms of their excellent yarn quality. The perfectly coordinated steps – from the spinning process all the way through to take-up – ensure optimum results in the subsequent, downstream splitting process.
Use of even larger cans at the card is only possible with T-MOVE. The Can Filling Station T-MOVE is an entirely new solution for filling cans at the card. In recent years, card productions have increased rapidly. The can changers, however, have not adapted accordingly. To change a can, the delivery speed of the card must be significantly lowered and then increased again after the change. This reduces efficiency and impacts sliver quality.
