Aleading sports technology delegation from the State of Victoria, Australia visited India from May 9-13 to embark on their first sportstech trade mission with the aim of forging partnerships with their Indian counterparts. The mission is led by the State Government of Victoria in partnership with The Australian Sports Technologies Network, a not-for–profit member based organisation focused on commercialisation, development and promotion of Australian-inspired sports technologies across domestic and global markets.

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil) has welcomed the Government’s decision to amend the Incremental Exports Incentivisation Scheme (IEIS) and the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS). The Government removed the restriction under IEIS last week. “The decision of the Government to issue duty credit scrips under the IEIS without any restriction will certainly improve the cash flow of the exporters,” Texprocil Chairman RK Dalmia said.

Pakistan Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastagir Khan has said that Pakistan aims at increasing exports to India to $1 billion within a year, as made-up textiles products and ready-made garments have great potential to make their way to Indian markets. He was chairing a meeting of the Pak-India Business Council in Islamabad recently.

KPS Capital Partners LP has announced that its portfolio company American & Efird (A&E) signed definitive agreements to acquire majority ownership of Vardhman Yarns and Threads Limited from its joint venture partner, Vardhman Textiles Limited. Upon completion of the transaction, A&E will own 89 per cent of the joint venture and Vardhman Textiles will own the other 11 per cent. The transaction has been approved by A&E and Vardhman Textiles, but remains subject to approval from the Competition Commission of India and other customary closing conditions.

The International Apparel Federation, together with the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India, is hosting the 32nd IAF World Fashion Convention in Mumbai (India) on September 27-28, 2016. The theme for this Convention is ‘Insights into New Opportunities’. The Convention will be held at the Trident Nariman Point Hotel.

Since India did not have export subsidies during 1986 to 1988, which is the base period per the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture (AOA), India is not entitled to export subsidies. However, subsidies to reduce the cost of marketing, transportation costs, handling and processing costs are permitted without circumventing the export subsidy reduction commitments.
