The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has raised India’s cotton export forecast in April 2016 on account of increased demand form Pakistan. India’s exports are boosted 250,000 bales to 5.8 million on strong demand, especially from Pakistan, USDA said in its latest report. “Strong textile exports, especially of apparel and bed wear, have forced Pakistan’s textile sector to look to imported cotton, especially from India, to make up for a significantly smaller crop,†according to the report.

Thomas Nasiou has taken over the position as CEO of Uster Technologies as of April 1, 2016. Dr Geoffrey Scott and Philip Mosimann become Co-Chairmen of the Board of Directors. Koichi Ito joined the USTER Board of Directors succeeding Susumu Toyoda. Thomas Nasiou assumed the role of CEO. This follows a planned transition and handover of responsibilities from Dr Scott who remains as a member of the BODs.

Apart from suitings, the other segments under the textiles division include shirtings (fabrics for making shirts), made-to-measure garments and exports. Oerlikon announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the entire staple fibres technology portfolio of Trützschler Nonwovens & Man-Made Fibers GmbH, Egelsbach, Germany. This company is part of the German Truetzschler Group, which is a specialist in fibre preparation for the yarn spinning and nonwovens industries. The acquisition expands the Manmade Fibers Segment’s technology portfolio and opens up access to new customers in the market for synthetic staple fibres.
