Acche Din´ for the Indian textile industry seemed to have come true, when the curtains came down after lively presentations and debates addressing an audience of over 400 on the second day of the 8th Asian Textile Conference (Atexcon), organised recently by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) at the Westin Hotel in Mumbai.
After the economic slowdown of 2008-09 in which the global textile industry lost much of its steam, there came a whiff of fresh air in the industry last year. But again the uncertainty persisted for some time till the new Government at the Centre gave some hopes a few months back.

Asian countries, particularly China and India, should boost their cotton consumption. Jose Sette, executive director of Washington, DC-based International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) speaking in Mumbai at the 8th Asian Textile Conference stated that although increasing cotton yield per hectare is important in India, China and India should focus on increasing its per capita cotton consumption.
