Applied DNA Sciences Inc, a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office issued patent no. 8,669,079 for the companys fiberTyping® authentication of cotton-based products. The patented technology enables forensic identity testing of Extra Long Staple Cotton, without pre-marking or additional preparation, and has been used successfully for more than five years by a range of large cotton organisations, including, fabrics, garments and other premium cotton-based apparel retailers. It is currently used by cotton trade organizations, as well as mills based in China, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Peru and the Americas.
fiberTyping also can determine whether the cotton is blended rather than pure.
