Tiruppur,
Tamil Nadu

In a GO dated April 20, Edappadi
K Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, said the large vertically
integrated textile units, medical textile manufacturing industries and
industries and intermediaries providing raw materials to these industries will
be considered as essential commodity-making units and be exempted from night
curfew and Sunday lockdown.

The Tiruppur Garment Exporters wrote
to the CM, thanking him for allowing these units to continue uninterrupted
operations. Earlier, in a letter to the CM, the association had
requested
him to exempt textile units
from lockdown restrictions.

A Sakthivel, Chairman of the
Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), said that the decision will help lakhs
