Textiles Ministry consults states ahead of global markets summit

Webinar focuses on boosting exports and district-led strategies.

The Ministry of Textiles held a National Consultative Webinar with States and Union Territories as part of preparations for the upcoming Departmental Summit themed “Textiles for Global Markets,” scheduled for June 2026. The webinar was organised in line with the Cabinet Secretary’s directions to strengthen Centre–State coordination for accelerating growth in priority sectors.

In her opening remarks, Secretary (Textiles) noted that while the domestic textile sector has recorded steady growth, export performance has remained comparatively modest in recent years. She highlighted the national vision of increasing textile and apparel exports from around $40 billion to $100 billion by 2030, stressing that closer collaboration with States and UTs would be crucial to achieving the target. She also underlined the need to develop an outcome-driven agenda for the proposed summit, aimed at building national consensus and identifying practical pathways to strengthen exports.

The Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles outlined the purpose of the consultative process, stating that it would help identify policy gaps, infrastructure needs, logistics bottlenecks and regulatory issues affecting exports, enabling targeted interventions at both national and State levels.

During the session, the Trade Advisor, Ministry of Textiles presented an overview of India’s textile export performance, including State-wise export trends, while emphasising the importance of market diversification, technology adoption and stronger value chains.

The DDG, Ministry of Textiles showcased the District-Led Textile Transformation (DLTT) framework, highlighting Panipat as a pilot district demonstrating district-driven export competitiveness through scheme convergence and data-led planning.

States and UTs were encouraged to actively participate in Bharat Tex 2026, scheduled for 14–17 July 2026, positioning it as a key global platform for investment promotion and buyer–seller engagement.

During the interactive discussion, States raised concerns related to infrastructure gaps, skilling requirements, MSME export facilitation, handloom support, and the need for cluster-based export strategies. The Ministry said the next steps include State-level consultations, district export action plans, and further discussions to finalise the summit agenda.
