Bilateral collaboration and technical exchanges between United States and India in technical textiles are planned as a part of the United States and India strategic and commercial cooperation. China will start selling its massive cotton stockpiles this year, in a move likely to depress demand as the country’s mills hold off buying in anticipation of sales of discounted fibre. Market rumours have been hinting that China was preparing to release some of its holdings, which have swelled to around 10 million tons more than 40 per cent of world stocks.

Growth in the volume of world merchandise trade will pick up only slightly over the next two years, rising from 2.8 per cent in 2014 to 3.3 per cent in 2015 and eventually to 4.0 per cent in 2016, WTO economists have announced. Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said that ´by withdrawing protectionist measures, improving market access, avoiding policies which distort competition and striving to agree reforms to global trade rules, governments can boost trade and seize the opportunities that it offers for everyone.´

The United States cotton producers are focusing their efforts to deliver quality cotton this year. A group of cotton producers, researchers, extension specialists, policy staff, industry personnel and bankers gathered in the Lubbock office of Plains Cotton Growers (PCG) to discuss the state of the cotton industry.

Cotton prices continue to decline in various parts of India, while the farmers are unhappy with the price ranging from Rs. 2,800 to Rs.3,200 per quintal. In 2013-14, the cotton fetched good price at Rs.5,500 to Rs.6,000 per quintal. Many farmers feel that unprecedented loss is incurred by them since the cotton cultivation cost has gone up.

The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has placed the cotton crop for the season 2014-15 beginning on 1st October 2014 at 405.50 lakh bales of 170 kg. each.

Today technical textiles account for 27 percent of worldwide textile fabric production and a worldwide growth of 3 – 5 percent a year is expected for the technical- textiles sector: Michael Jänecke,, Director, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH, says in no uncertain terms with a beaming smile. He is the official ambassador for the Techtextil in Germany next year, to be held from May 4 to 7, 2015.
