The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ICHAM) organised a technical seminar recently, focusing on the Italian garment and textile technology in Ho Chi Minh city.

Europe still dominates in textile technology, but India is no laggard. It has created its own niche. With 158 exhibitors at the present ITMA 2015, Indian textile machinery and spares industry has come a long way to spread its wings since 1975 when at the same Milan, India fielded a lone exhibitor. Uster Technologies is to have a new Chief Executive, in a carefully-planned and phased handover by April 2016. At his own request, current CEO Dr Geoffrey Scott will take early retirement, and will be succeeded by Thomas Nasiou, currently the company´s Head of Textile Technology.

KCT-TIFAC CORE in Textile Technology & Machinery of Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore jointly with the Department of Fashion Technology organised a short-term training programme on ´Woven CAD´ on August 7 at KCT, exclusively for the benefit of students from textile institutions, technicians working in weaving industry, designers working in apparel industries.

Dr NN Mahapatra, VP – BD, Colorant Ltd, has written a book titled ´Textile Technology´, which will be available for Rs 1,495.

It was the textile technology show with everything. From the USTER viewpoint, the recent ShanghaiTex 2015 was a multi-faceted success: important contracts concluded, new deals initiated, market insights, and more visitors for USTER, up 7 per cent on the previous edition. And, unfortunately, there was also more rain ´ heavy downpours which kept the overall attendance at ShanghaiTex 2015 somewhat below expectations.

What has textile technology got to do with aircraft manufacture? In fact, quite a few Swiss textile machinery companies would be able to answer that question, as aerospace is just one of the high-profile ´ and extremely demanding ´ business segments in which their products play a key role.
