The Ministry of Textiles (MoT) has launched Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) in the year 2005 to provide the industry with state-of-the-art world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up of the textile units. The scheme provides 40 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 crore for establishing the park. About 70 textile parks have been benefited out the scheme.
The Indian textile industry, employing over 105 million people, has been pleading for several urgent measures relating to Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) scheme, levies on man-made fibre duties, enhanced incentives under Focus Market Scheme to compensate partially, the disadvantages in the tariff rates for Indian textile products prevailing in various countries till the FTAs are finalised.
