The Ministry of Textiles (MoT) had launched a scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) in 2005 to provide the industry with state-of-the-art world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up of the textile units. The scheme provides 40 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 crore for establishing the park. About 70 textile parks have been benefited out the scheme.
Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park (PHWP) was one of the first parks established under the scheme and achieved the targets as per the DPR and came into operational in the whole of the country. This park was given Rs 22.17 crore as central government grant and was also sanctioned 9 per cent of the project cost as one time grant Rs 4.98 crore by the Tamil Nadu Government. This park consists of 90 weaving sheds of various sizes with a total built up area of 7 lakh sq ft. Currently 400 shuttleless looms are working in the park. The total investment made in the park is around Rs 360 crore and provides direct employment to 3,000 people and indirect employment to 2,500 people.
M Senthilkumar, Chairman and Managing Director, PHWP has stated that PHWP was honoured by the MoT as No. 1 outstanding performing park out of 70 parks in the nation at the workshop conducted by the MoT in the wake of ?Make in India? programme held at Surat on April 9, 2015 wherein the Union Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Santhosh Kumar Gangwar gave away the award to the park. Senthilkumar has thanked MoT for recognizing the hard work put in by the team of promoters. He further stated that the park continues to avail the benefits under the various schemes including textile workers hostel scheme, apparel unit scheme, skill development scheme, etc., and playing a lead role in all the schemes of MoT.
Senthilkumar has stated that any VIP visitor relating to textile business visiting Coimbatore also spends adequate time in PHWP and has been highly appreciating the success model of the park.
PHWP CMD has stated that Gokula Indira, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles; MSM Anandan, Minister for Forests; KP Paramasivam, MLA, Palladam constituency; Harmander Singh, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu; and G Govindaraj IAS, Tirupur District Collector accompanied with them visited the park April 16, 2015 and highly appreciated the efforts taken by the promoters of the park making it as the best park in the nation.
