Khadi is one such cloth that had played a key role in the freedom struggle of India and thus has been referred to as the ‘fabric of Indian independence’, narrate Shruti Gupta, Deepali Rastogi and Ritu Mathur.

The Indian textile industry, which caters to this need, has an estimated market size of $108 billion. Raymond Ltd, textile and apparel major, will launch Khadi by Raymond on October 2, 2017. Raymond was first to forge the first partnership with the Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and will promote the fabric in India and global markets.

The Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries (MSKVI) board has drafted a detailed plan to revive home-based and village industries in the State.

Sale of khadi products shot up by 33 per cent to Rs 2,005 crore in the fiscal year 2016-17, from Rs 1,510 crore a year ago. Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) said in a statement that it expects to surpass the sales target of Rs 5,000 crore in 2018-19.
